Send/Receive problem: this is really baffling me

For the last few days, Outlook 2003/SP3 (Windows XP/SP2) doesn’t perform an automatic Send/Receive as soon as it starts up. I need to carry out a manual “Send/Receive All” after opening Outlook. I can’t find a “Send/Receive immediately when connected” option anywhere (there is a Send immediately when connected” option, which is checked).

Is there a mysterious setting somewhere that I’ve turned off by accident? Does this have anything to do with the latest security updates? Maybe an unrelated third-party product I’ve installed?

Baffling! If anyone can suggest a solution, please drop me a line.
