Autopinger needs lots of TLC please!

by Maskil on April 16, 2008

Is the Autopinger service still being maintained? I’ve been wanting to adopt a single blog ping service, to avoid the risk of being classified as a ping spammer. I also liked the Autopinger idea of a set-and-forget service that would allow me to enter my blog details once:

Auto-pinging refers to the action of checking your blogs and podcast feeds at regular time interval and ping your updates to your selected to-ping services.

I created an account on Autopinger some time back, but I’ve just got around to adding my blog details. Each time I attempt to do this however, I get the following error message:

Add New Blog To Autopinger

Cannot insert the value NULL into column ‘DateAdded’, table ‘vinson.dbo.MemberBlogs’; column does not allow nulls. INSERT fails. The statement has been terminated.

When I attempt to access their blog, I get the following error message:

Nullable object must have a value.

It’s possible to view the forums, but there’s nothing on there dated later than 2006/2007. When I try to post something to the forums, it appears to be successful (no error message). Refresh your view of the forum, however, and there’s no sign of it.

I used the E-mail Administrator function, which generated an e-mail message to ‘vinson@autopinger.com’. No response as yet, but that may be because of time zone differences.

It is still possible to use the Ping your blog now! function on the Home Page but if that’s all that’s available, it becomes Just Another Blog Ping Service.

This is potentially a great service, but very much in need of some TLC from the administrators. I’m sure it would repay a little effort by generating a revenue stream from advertising. See below for what looks like impressive growth in hits over the last year:
